Verdelho

This popular wine is made from imported vines from the island of Madiera where the famous sweet wine of that name is made. This is a lovely fresh wine with a strong aroma of lime and tropical fruits. The dominant flavour is of intense lime with a creamy texture and long finish.

Vintages:

Fox Creek 2005 Verdelho

appearance
Brilliant, with pale green tints.

bouquet
Strong pineapple with tropical fruits, lifted spice and vanilla creaminess as a result of partial oak fermentation.

palate
Pineapple and lime are the dominant characters, together with a generous creamy texture and warm alcohol. The acidity provides both zest and length to the palate.

winemaking
This was a warm growing season with a steady ripening throughout the summer. The grapes ripened well with rich flavour development, giving generous varietal flavours while retaining natural acidity. Harvest was between Feb 11th & 16th at 13.0? - 14.0? Baumé. Around 20% of the wine was fermented in one year old French and American oak to provide additional complexity on the palate. Most of the wine was cool fermented in stainless steel for three weeks.

ageing potential
Whilst our Verdelho has immediate appeal, it is a wine that will benefit from short term cellaring. If properly cellared luscious flavours of lime and honey develop after 12 to 18 months. Ideally buy a case now and monitor its development over one to two years.
