Fox Creek Wines Pty LtdOur Wines

Verdelho

This popular wine is made from imported vines from the island of Madiera where the famous sweet wine of that name is made. This is a lovely fresh wine with a strong aroma of lime and tropical fruits. The dominant flavour is of intense lime with a creamy texture and long finish.

Vintages:

Fox Creek 2002 Verdelho

appearance
Brilliant, with light green tints.

bouquet
Strong lime, pineapple and light tropical fruits with a little vanilla creaminess derived from the small proportion of wine that was fermented in oak.

palate
The lime character evident on the nose continues as the dominant flavour on the palate, together with a creamy texture derived from the oak fermentation and lees contact. The natural acidity of the vintage provides both zest and length to the palate.

winemaking
Flavour development was excellent this year due to the slightly cooler vintage conditions. The grapes were harvested between 18th February and 6th March at 12.6° to 13.4° Baumé. A small proportion of Verdelho was fermented in new American oak for about 6 weeks in order to increase complexity on the palate. Most of the wine was fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel for three weeks.

ageing potential
Whilst our Verdelho has immediate appeal, it is a wine that can repay short term cellaring. If properly cellared, from 12 to 18 months onwards luscious flavours of lime and honey develop. Ideally then, buy a case now and monitor its development over two or three years.
