Fox Creek Wines, from South Australia’s McLaren Vale, has just released Shadow’s run, The White.
It was only last year when Shadow, Fox Creek’s lovable Border Collie, shot to celebrity status after gracing the label of his own red wine, a 2001 Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon, named Shadow’s run.
Shadow was destined for a terrible fate at the hands of the local vet when Helen Watts, one of the owners of Fox Creek Wines, rescued him and gave Shadow a new home and his own wine label. Since then he has grown up living and working at Fox Creek. Much to the dismay of the pruners, Shadow’s favourite pursuit is chasing the vibrations of the trellis wires, as the pruners secateurs hit them, up and down the vineyard rows; hence the name of the wine, Shadow’s run.
Since the first release, Shadow has built up a fan club of visitors to the Fox Creek Cellar Door. Some bring old tennis balls for Shadow to play with, others want autographs or their photo taken with Shadow and some just want a pat.
Shadow’s new white wine is a complex blend of Verdelho and Chardonnay from the 2004 vintage crafted by winemakers Chris Dix and Tony Walker. It is lovely and fresh with a rich seamless palate of citrus and tropical fruit flavours and it is made to be enjoyed whilst young.
The second vintage of Shadow’s red wine is made how Shadow likes it - loaded with flavour and easy to drink. It is rich and spicy with cherry and raspberry flavours, leading to a soft luscious finish.
Both of Shadow’s wines have won Wine Show Medals and are sealed under the convenient screw cap so you can enjoy them with all the freshness the winemakers intended. This also makes them perfect for sharing with good friends at picnics and barbeques.
The 2004 Shadow’s run The White and the 2002 Shadow’s run Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon are available from many retailers nationally or the Fox Creek Cellar Door. The recommended retail price for both wines is $12.
